This is a great, standard recipe for Chess Pie, the gooey, sweet Southern traditional. The filling is a rich custard that’s sweeter than most, well balanced just somewhat with the addition of white vinegar. A tiny amount of flour and cornmeal generate a quite slim, crispy caramelized crust above the leading.
This recipe is adapted from the original featured in Southern Residing journal. Southern buds of mine swear that it is the actual deal.
