A should-have for fish and chips, fishcakes and a fish finger sandwich, tartare sauce is a cinch to knock up.

  • 200ml/7fl oz mayonnaise
  • three tbsp capers, drained and chopped
  • 3 tbsp gherkins, drained and chopped
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • squeeze of lemon juice
  • three tbsp chopped refreshing parsley
  • flaked sea salt and freshly floor black pepper

Mix collectively all of the components in a small bowl and serve straight away or store in the fridge until essential.
